The arms of Lord Shiva came out as per theKedarnath myth, at Tungnath. He
is worshiped here as one of the Panch Kedars. Tungnath temple is the highest
Shiva Shrine amongst the Panch Kedars but the easiest to reach from the nearest
road head. It is sited at an altitude of 3680 mts and usually pilgrims get
down at Choptachatti on Ukhimath - Gopeshwar motor road. Chopta (3000 mts)
is famous for its mountain views. The enterprising one can climb the Chandrashila
peak from Tungnath as it is in the same feature and can be reached in about
an hour's time. The peak provides a rare panoramic view of snow peaks.
